A bookcase Redo!

Sometimes you just have to enlist the neighborhood kids to help with stuff. I was knee deep in my daughter's room renovation that I didn't want to sand or paint another thing! But my daughter was inheriting our bookcases from the living room, so I had to think of something else to replace them. I found this VERY tall real wood bookcase from our local Habitat for Humanity store for $50! Saaaay Whaaaat? That is a great price for a quality hand made bookcase. But the color. There was the real problem. I do love wood, in the right setting or home. It's rustic and beautiful, but too much of it and things start to look like a log cabin.  So here are the kids, sanding away.

The bookcase got a coat of primer, three coats of white paint (Olympic's Snow Storm in Satin) and the back is painted with Benjamin Moore's Powder Blush in Satin.)  It got two coats of Minwax Wipe-On Poly.

Styling the bookcases was fun!  I used mostly things I had, but had to find new storage solutions. My favorite are the leopard print bins from Target. Below that are two Ombre Gray fabric bins to hold DVD's. Below that is a Gray furry bin also from Target.  The teal shelf is a laptop desk from Home Goods.

Still debating on that upper section! I might add a shelf or a piece of art to fill that space. Haven't quite decided yet.

Happy Organizing

job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
Too cool!
