Thanksgiving Tablescape 2021

Even though the world has opened up a bit and people are travelling again, we chose to stay close to home again this year.  Waiting for some normalcy before venturing out for fun again. Although we miss our extended family dearly and want nothing more than to be together for the holidays. My kids know no different being alone with just us every holiday, but Joe and I really feel the longlines of the past.   So even though it's just the five of us we still want it to feel special.  So without much planning I pulled together a tablescape with what we have and some grocery store blooms.

We used our white Mikasa dinner plates and put our Narwhal Anthro plates on top.  The white Napkins are from Pottery Barn and were a wedding gift (still going strong after 18 years!)

The black fur runner is from Amazon and the checkered black and white placemats are from Home Goods.  The glass pumpkin is from Home Goods also from three years ago.

I placed the flowers in a gold pot I found thrifting.  The gold candle sticks are also thrifted.

The blooms set me back $50, but I feel like this would have cost $200 if I bought it from a florist. It's a combination of white roses, white carnations, kale, daylilies, green dianthus, and white daisies.  I actually wanted a mixture of reds and dark pinks but they had nothing like that at the grocery store.

Joe folded all the napkins for me. He learned this in Southern Living Magazine this year. He taught our daughter too which was very fun for her.

I can't thank Joe enough for doing almost all of the cooking this year. It's really not enjoyable for me.  I made the fruit salad and helped chop things, but he did most everything else. And this weekend he is going above and beyond helping decorate both inside and out. Even risking his life on a ladder getting lights on the second story of our house this year. Stay tuned!

Happy Thanksgiving weekend! 🦃

Cozy and Warm Thanksgiving Tablescape

It's Thanksgiving week 2020.  🦃 The table is set for a cozy dinner with just our family of 5. We live far away from our extended families so we've gotten used to celebrating alone sadly. But we try to make happy memories for our kids who will hopefully come around for future holiday gatherings.  Here's our table all cozied up with a King size Faux Fur Quilt! All of my table cloths seem too small, but this fit the bill! I think I might find a kid or two hiding under there at some point.

For a "centerpiece" I used white pumpkins from Halloween, some white Daisy's, a glass Trifold with faux pumpkins and candles and mini LED lights.

I pulled out the Black and White Buffalo Check print placemats that I got for Christmas last year because I think they are also great for Autumn.

We hope that you are not alone this Thanksgiving and that there is someone you can safely celebrate with. Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving 2016

Thanksgiving is already upon us. How did that happen? And what have I done between now and Halloween?? Pretty much nothing. I guess trying to take in all the beauty of the season and enjoy some quiet time while the kids are back in school. Here is our lovely view of the back yard from inside. It's quite the view.

On the inside we have a few of our Thanksgiving decorations out. Not many new ones, except Mr. Fox on the dining room table.
We did get a pumpkin scented candle for the entry way alongside our purple mums.

Our DIY "Give Thanks" banner used to hang above our mantle in the old house.  Now it hangs in our window in the dining room.

Oh, Mr. Squirrel is new too. What is it with me and forest animals?!

This is our DIY felt acorn garland on the fireplace.

Our cute ceramic vintage pilgrim boy next to the white ceramic pine cone candle holder.

The copper colored mercury glass pumpkin is new this year from Home Goods. We needed a little color for our mostly gray and white tablescape.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Looking forward to filling this table with good food and great family.

Creating a beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape

So my in-laws are coming into town for Thanksgiving, all the way from Hawaii! So the big meal has been on my mind lately. In years past my Thanksgiving table was a hodge podge of various glasses that didn't quite match and children's place settings at the same table that didn't match either.  This year I'm looking for a more cohesive look. Something that says, casual yet elegant. Sophisticated, yet playful. Can I have it all?  I'm leaning towards creamy whites, linens, gold, and lots of texture for my table. Here are some inspiration photos I found for creating my table.

Can't wait to pull ideas together. I'm spray painting pumpkins as we speak!

Felt Acorns

Look at our lovely leaves falling! I took this quick video from our window during a chilly afternoon to capture the beauty of Fall, especially in my neighborhood with all the big trees.

During this lovely Fall day I had the kids help gather some acorn tops outside to make a cute Fall/or Winter craft.  Felted acorn ornaments!
We painted the tops with a paint brush using some metallic paint. You could also use spray paint but we didn't have gold which is the color I wanted to use originally.

At Michaels I picked up 100% wool roving and used my 40% off coupon. It was just a few dollars.

I also picked up some twine in the floral section of Michaels for a few dollars.

In order to make little balls I tore off little bits of the wool and rolled it into a ball and then dipped it in soapy water and then squeezed out the excess.  I let the balls dry over night.

I attached the balls inside the acorn caps using my hot glue gun and I attached the twine the same way. Once they were dry I hung them through a longer piece of twine to display.

They made a cute addition to the mantel I think!

When Thanksgiving is over I think they could make cute toppers for gifts or even look great as Christmas tree ornaments.

Here's some little close-ups.

Happy Fall Ya'll!
