Rooms with Red and Baby Blue

My head is buzzing with ideas on how to decorate my son's room now that the flooring is complete. The walls are a soft gray and the twin beds are bright red.  Everything else can be changed.  Here are some inspiration photos that include gray with pops of red and blue.

I'm digging the black and white chevron rug and on Overstock right now they have one on sale for $40. Definitely going to keep my eye on it.

This red bed is similar to the ones my two son's have.  So I'm taking cues from this photo that it pairs really well with light baby blue.

A room with two red bed and blue walls.  This is too "red, white, and blue" for me" but I do like that metal gray locker with the globe.

I love that they used a more teal green on the walls with this red bed.

This is obviously an adult guest room, but these colors are divine.  Love the black and white paired with the red headboards and green/blue wall paint.  Also, the hints of gold are so sophisticated and very on par with today's metal trends.

So many fun ideas!  I'll keep you posted on the updates of the room of course!

Updating flooring in child's room

We knocked out one of the kid's rooms this weekend with new flooring. One of three bedrooms we'll get done over the impending weeks of Spring while the weather is nice and we can work with the windows open and let things air out. Especially due to the fact that we have to also caulk the quarter round and paint the trim around the floor.  Here is our son's shared space BEFORE:

My my, sometimes taking pictures gives you a clearer view of just how much you need to declutter. This one screams, "Organize those shelves! Take down those stickers! Clean up that dresser!"  Maybe it's just me.

This dresser is getting an overhaul soon.  You can see the walls are light gray. I'm leaning towards painting the dresser either a soft baby blue (goes so nicely with the red beds) or perhaps a teal or turquoise.

And here are the AFTER shots.  I love having a blank slate to work with.  I can't wait to get the furniture back in and show you Real AFTER shots.

Stay tuned as this room gets transformed!

New Living room Floor

I feel like we change our flooring as much as we change our clothes around here. It's honestly getting to be quite a lot of work.  With the kitchen remodel  that was forced upon us when we came back from vacation due to a flood we decided to go with continuous floors throughout the entire house.  Last weekend we tackled the living room.  Here is the BEFORE pic.  There is nothing wrong with these floors, we just decided we liked darker floors more.

Another BEFORE shot.

Now there's a monkey on your back if you ever saw one.  It's not surprising my kids want to spend every second with Joe. He's the best husband.  The first step was to remove all of the quarter round.

And how's this for child labor? Get the little ones involved and we all succeed.

The first section of flooring goes down.  We didn't pull up the old flooring, so that saved us a lot of time. Instead we laid foam underlayment right on top of it. The blue tape is to make sure that first section is completely straight and nothing shifts.

The back door entry is moving along.

Our whole living room had to be dismantled and we just moved everything to one side while we worked.

This was a disaster area for two full days, the amount of time if took us to do the whole living room (minus underneath our washer and dryer, we'll get to that another day.)

And let's get right to it, Here are the AFTER shots.

We love our new flooring.  It suits us much better than the lighter wood. Now we just have to do all the bedrooms and we can call it quits for a while! At least for the big stuff anyway.
